How soon is too soon to think about your furnace?

The answer is it’s never too early.  August is the perfect time to seriously start thinking about upgrading your furnace because September is an unpredictable month for weather and the temperatures are downhill from there.  One year it may be 90 degrees the entire month and the next it may be in the 40s.  Because of the uncertainty, shouldn’t your furnace be ready for action the moment it’s needed?  If your furnace is only a few years old and you aren’t planning on replacing anytime soon, it’s time to set up your yearly maintenance.

Ever heard the phrase “the early bird gets the worm”?  Of course you have, and it rings true with a heating system for your home, too.  Early in the season you are able to snag awesome trade in offers that will save you a lot of money on your new, energy efficient system.  Who doesn’t love saving money on something you need, anyway?  If your furnace is over ten years old it’s not running nearly as efficiently as it once was, and even if it is, there are much more efficient systems out now.  Here at Bel-O, we love our Carrier systems and would recommend a system with Greenspeed Intelligence for the highest efficiency possible.  If you’re looking to upgrade it’s better to do it now (or at least do your research now) before heating and cooling companies are swamped with others who are needing the exact same thing as you. Don’t get left out in the cold!

If you don’t need a new furnace quite yet, you can at least set up your appointment to get your furnace tuned up.  A technician will clean it and find any potential issues before it becomes an emergency situation.  The last thing you want is to put off the preventative maintenance for months and months before waking up in January to no heat and every service company being booked for days.  It seems dramatic, yes, but I’m trying to plant a picture in your head.  You can resolve all of those issues BEFORE they start so you can spend more time sipping cocoa and less worrying about if your furnace will make it even one more night.

Then, there are those of you who aren’t sure if you should just get a tune up and possibly some repairs or if you should take the plunge and invest in that new furnace.  That’s where our heating and cooling expert comes in.  He’ll take a look and let you know, honestly, what is the better route for you.
