Is The Air In My Home Clean?

B.30 Homeowner Mistakes

Have you been hearing how contaminated your indoor air quality could be? Are you wanting to have an Indoor Air Quality Analysis performed on your home, but don’t know what it entails?  The BEL-O Man is here to help!  Did you know your indoor air can be 2-5 times  more contaminated than the air outdoors? If you want to improve the air quality of your home don’t hesitate to call an Indoor Air Quality expert to perform a quick analysis of your home!  There are a few ways to test the quality of air in your home…we’ll go over one method:

Choosing where: When performing the analysis your HVAC professional will need to determine certain areas to gather the testing samples.  Common areas for test sites are near a central air return vent, a room you frequent most, and a basement area are all proper locations for determining the overall quality of your indoor air.

Sample of outside air as well: In addition to the test sites located inside your home, the testing procedure will also include a sample taken right outside of the home to use as a control.  This control will be able to show you how the air in your home or office compares to the fresh air outside.

Then what?: After test and control locations have been determined the test can begin! Your indoor air quality expert will use a small device hooked up to an air pump while a controlled amount of air is pumped through the filter for a 5-10 minutes.  Once the test is complete at that location, the test filter is removed and the pump is moved to the next testing location.  Once all locations have been tested you should hear back from your HVAC professional within a few short days with the test results.  The report will be able to show you how contaminated your indoor air is with different particles and spores.  Your HVAC professional will be able to analyze your report to help you identify the best route to take for your home or office space.  As mentioned before there are a few methods to test the quality of air in your home.  Contact your local HVAC professional to discuss the best route for you!
