Carrier AC

During the peak of the summer you’re A/C is having to work it’s hardest. Because your system is working so hard to keep up, many begin to show some failing points.  Unless your unit is 100% new, there are several cases you may experience an issue during peak A/C season.  If you’ve ever experienced something you felt was out of the norm and asked yourself –“Is This A Common A/C Problem?” we’re here to help!  Below is a list of 5 common problems you may encounter during the hottest of summer days:

Problem #1: The Air Switches On Irregularly: for this common problem during peak A/C season, it could simply come down to the location of your thermostat.  If your thermostat is in a location directly in sunlight or in an area too cold this could trigger the system to turn on and off at odd times.  Make sure your thermostat is located in an area that reflects the average temperature for the whole house.
Problem #2: My A/C Won’t Run: if you know for certain that your unit is switched on, be sure to check that the thermostat is switched to ‘Cool’ and that your thermostat is set at a temperature low enough to turn the unit on.  If your unit is not coming on at all it may be best to contact your local and trusted HVAC company.
Problem #3: I’ve Noticed A Recent Increase In My Energy Bills: first check the age of your system.  Units 12 years and older are known to be less efficient and usually near the end of their life cycle.  To ensure your old unit lasts for as long as possible, always be sure to schedule regular seasonal maintenance with a professional!
Problem #4: My A/C Isn’t Cooling Like It Was Last Year: if you feel as if your home is not cooling like it was last year, there are three questions to ask yourself: (1) Is my filter clean?; (2) Is my air flowing properly throughout my home/do I need my ductwork cleaned?; (3) Could I have a refrigerant leak?  All three of these could cause your A/C to operate less efficiently.
Problem #5: I’m Hearing Funny Noises While My A/C Is Running: check out our recent blog to see if a sound you’re hearing made our list of common funny HVAC sounds. Offbeat noises are usually not a big problem, so don’t sweat it!
